In December 2024, The STEM Makers Team proudly participated in Blixathon, a prestigious robotics competition organized as part of Techfest IIT Bombay. With 2 teams (1 junior and 1 senior) representing The Stem Makers and 4 teams (3 junior and 1 senior category) from Aravinda School, the event became an incredible milestone in their STEM education journey. This opportunity allowed students to put their robotics for kids learning into real-world practice at one of India’s top technology festivals.
For the junior category, the challenge was to design and build a robot capable of pushing as many balls as possible into a goal post while skillfully avoiding obstacles within 4 minutes. Meanwhile, in the senior category, students tackled a more complex task — creating a robot that could pick up balls and place them into 6-inch and 12-inch containers. The 12-inch container, being barricaded and offering a higher score, added an extra layer of strategy and precision to the competition. These challenges tested the students’ skills in design, problem-solving, programming, and real-time decision-making — exactly the kind of learning we champion through our Robotics Classes for Kids at The STEM Makers.
Beyond the competition itself, students had the invaluable experience of witnessing a wide array of robot designs from other schools and teams. Observing different models exposed them to innovative engineering concepts, encouraging creativity, adaptability, and critical thinking — essential skills for future STEM leaders.
Adding a beautiful layer of nostalgia to the event was Ms. Asha, mentor at The Stem Makers, who attended Techfest IIT Bombay as a student in 1999. Returning exactly 25 years later, this time as a mentor guiding young innovators, was a full-circle moment. Ms. Asha expressed her excitement about the tremendous talent displayed by her teams and looks forward to taking more groups in the coming years, aiming for greater accolades and achievements.
At The STEM Makers, we believe that early exposure to real-world challenges is vital. Through our curated Robotics Workshops for Kids, students don’t just learn to build robots; they learn to solve problems creatively, work collaboratively, and develop leadership qualities. Events like Blixathon bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical application, setting the foundation for future engineers, scientists, and tech entrepreneurs.
