The STEM Makers

The STEM Makers run by Ms Asha Kranthi is the best place for learning python programming and Robotics for kids in the age group 7 to 15 yrs.

We strongly believe in the concept of learning by doing.
We provide structured learning programs in Robotics and Programming every month and during summer too. Simultaneously we aggregate and train teams to participate in Robotics competitions nationally and internationally.

Our Center is in Vishnupuram Colony Poranki, near to Slate School. We have state of the art robotics kits from VEX, Aavishkar, Blix for all levels of students. We also have a 6 feet by 8 feet Robotics Arena in our center where students can test the robots that they have built.

What is The STEM Makers ?

Current curriculum is based on rote learning where students learn subjects in the format – this is the question, this is the formula and this is the answer.  Design is not a linear process like this. Design involves understanding the requirements and constraints and coming up with a solution that best fits the above. The multidimensional thinking needed for design process is not imparted in a rote learning based curriculum. At The STEM Makers, we wish to address this using Mechanical Assembly, Robotics, Programming activities to develop multidimensional thinking among students.

Our curriculum based on cognitive pedagogy model is designed to fulfill the 3 principles.
1. Nothing is outside syllabus
2. Inculcating open/growth mindset, learning being adaptive
3. Learning to work in ambiguity

What is STEM Education?

The Makers are the followers of maker culture which represents a technology-based extension of DIY culture that revels in the creation of new devices and products as well as tinkering with existing ones. The maker culture in general supports open-source hardware and it refers to the world through modern, sustainable manufacturing and industrialization.

Indian Education System has been plagued with Rote Learning for countless number of years. The tremendous focus, on memorization of factual information, completely kills the creativity and original thinking which is bound to blossom in the minds of our children.

The Higher Order Thinking Skills like Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Innovation (all prerequisites for a knowledge society) are mostly sidelined for memorization of theorems, mathematical tables, historical facts etc. This has systemically led to the decay of culture of excellence and originality in our country. Further, when these children end up growing into adults – they lack both behavioral and technical skills to prosper in the world of today and tomorrow.

This lack, of key skills, essentially leads to most of the problems present in our society (like unemployment, stress, violence). There have been welcome changes like introduction of CCE in our schooling system. The society as a whole is also embracing change, however, a lot more needs to be done.

With this thought as our driving force, we have been conducting the IRC League – a league that aims to celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and make innovation an area of passion for the young minds of the developing world.

Vision of IRC League

The League aims to become a source of inspiration and motivation for young minds to consciously take up careers in the domains of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with a clear aim to innovate and thereby shape the future.

The league shall capture the attention of young minds by giving them problems and challenges that not only stretch their imagination but also are burning issues.

“ Not only is Asha exceptionally knowledgeable but she is incredibly patient when going through the material, which is not easy, but she makes it palatable, dare I say fun. Asha took the time to work with my son, even taking him through pseudocode, when need arose, for the material to sink in. I highly recommend Python Programming course with Asha to anyone who is interested in programming for their kids ”

“My kid took the Python online class with Ms. Asha. Her teaching methods are really effective, and right to the point. She was extremely helpful with any questions or topics that my daughter had a hard time understanding. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who is interested in python for their kids, whether as a beginner or with experience in coding.”

My kids have been enjoying this activity right from the outset for the past one year. Asha let's the kids do the assembly and coding, while observing them and guiding them gently whenever they do a mistake or a better and easier approach is possible.
