Exploring Innovation: Asha from STEM Makers Visits Mind Factory’s FRC Robot Showcase

Visit to Mind Factory, Mumbai – WRO Robot Showcase

One of the main objectives of our visit to Mind Factory, Mumbai was to witness the impressive robot they are building for the upcoming  First Robotics Competition (FRC). This massive robot weighs over 50 kilograms and is a marvel of engineering, equipped with 12 powerful motors. The base consists of four swerve wheels, each powered by two motors for enhanced maneuverability. Additionally, two motors drive chains over sprockets to move the robot’s frame up and down, while another motor is dedicated to rotating the arm. A final motor operates the rollers, which are responsible for moving PVC pipes along the structure.

A key feature of the robot is its limit switch mechanism placed strategically between the rollers. This switch controls the pushing and stopping of the PVC pipes with precision. The robot’s primary tasks involve picking up large, soft hollow balls and accurately placing them, as well as lifting and positioning dropped PVC pipes onto a designated frame.

The level of detailing, coordination, and mechanical design in this robot is truly remarkable. A short video showcasing a glimpse of the robot’s operation follows, highlighting its smooth, synchronized movements and the innovative solutions implemented for the WRO challenge.
