Celebrating Innovation, Engineering and a Journey Towards Nationals
The spirit of innovation, creativity and hands-on learning came alive for The STEM Makers at the WSRO Regionals 2026 in Bhopal on 5th September 2026.
Five students from The STEM Makers participated in the regional competition across three challenging categories β Robo Sprint, Robo Precision and Young Scientist β All STEM.
The students brought together weeks of preparation, experimentation, engineering design and teamwork to compete with young innovators from across the region.
And the results made the journey even more special:
π Robo Precision β First Prize
π Young Scientist β All STEM β Judges Choice Award
π Qualification for the WSRO Nationals in Goa
The regional competition has also opened the door to the next stage of the journey, with our students gaining an entry into the WSRO Nationals, scheduled to be held in Goa on 26th and 27th September 2026.
Three Categories. Three Different Challenges.
The five students participated across three categories, each requiring a different combination of skills and ways of thinking.
β‘ Robo Sprint β Speed Meets Engineering
Robo Sprint challenged students to combine robot design, driving skills, control and strategy.
Preparing for the event required repeated practice runs and constant refinement. Students had to understand how seemingly small changes in the robot’s drivetrain, weight distribution, wheel configuration and control could affect its performance.
The competition taught them an important engineering lesson:
A fast robot is useful only when it can be controlled reliably.
Through repeated testing, students learned to analyse their robot’s performance and make practical improvements.
π Robo Precision β First Prize and a Place at Nationals
The highlight of the competition was the outstanding performance of the Robo Precision team, which secured the First Prize.
Robo Precision is a demanding engineering challenge requiring students to combine mechanical design, electronics, programming, control and strategy.
The team worked extensively on mechanisms for accurate movement and object manipulation, while focusing on reliability and precision.
Their preparation involved an iterative process:
Design β Build β Test β Identify Problems β Modify β Test Again
The students learned that successful engineering is rarely achieved in the first attempt. Every failed mechanism and every unexpected robot movement provided information that helped them make the next version better.
Their First Prize at the Bhopal Regionals is a wonderful recognition of this persistence and engineering mindset.
More importantly, the achievement has earned the team an opportunity to compete at the WSRO Nationals in Goa on 26th and 27th September 2026.
The next challenge awaits.
π¬ Young Scientist β All STEM: Judges Choice Award
Innovation isn’t always about building the fastest robot or creating the most complex mechanism.
Sometimes, it is about looking at a problem differently.
The Young Scientist β All STEM category provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to think creatively, apply STEM concepts and develop solutions to real-world challenges.
The STEM Makers team received the Judges Choice Award, recognising the distinctive qualities of their project and approach.
A Judges Choice Award is particularly meaningful because it reflects something that goes beyond a standard competition score β the judges saw an idea, approach or execution that stood out.
The recognition also gives the students an opportunity to take their ideas further as they move towards the National-level competition in Goa.
Preparation Is Where the Real Learning Happens
The awards at Bhopal were the visible outcome.
The real learning happened during the weeks of preparation leading up to the competition.
Students spent time building, programming, testing and troubleshooting their projects and robots. They experienced moments when things did not work as expected and had to figure out what to change.
Instead of simply looking for the correct answer, they learned to ask:
What went wrong?
Why did it happen?
What can we change?
How do we know if the new design is better?
This is the essence of the engineering design process and the kind of thinking that The STEM Makers strives to develop through hands-on STEM education.
From Regionals to Nationals
Qualifying for a national-level competition changes the nature of the challenge.
The students now have an opportunity to take everything they learned in Bhopal and use it to prepare for a larger and more competitive arena.
The weeks leading up to 26th and 27th September will be another cycle of designing, testing, refining and practising.
The goal will not simply be to build a better robot or project.
It will be to become better engineers, better problem-solvers and better learners.
The experience at the Nationals will bring together students from different regions, exposing our young innovators to new ideas, approaches and perspectives.
For our students, this is an opportunity to compete, but also to observe, collaborate, learn and be inspired by other young innovators.
Learning Beyond the Competition
Robotics and STEM competitions provide students with a unique learning environment.
Students are not simply following instructions. They are making decisions, evaluating possibilities and taking ownership of their solutions.
Through this journey, our students developed and strengthened skills such as:
- Critical and analytical thinking
- Engineering design
- Creative problem-solving
- Programming and robotics
- Teamwork and communication
- Decision-making under pressure
- Resilience and perseverance
- Ability to learn from failure
These skills remain valuable long after the competition is over.
From Competition to Confidence
For The STEM Makers, competitions are not just about trophies.
They provide students with a platform where learning becomes tangible.
A concept learned in a classroom becomes a mechanism.
A programming idea becomes robot movement.
A scientific principle becomes a working prototype.
A failed experiment becomes a new design.
And an idea becomes something that students can proudly present to judges and peers.
That transformation β from learning about STEM to actually doing STEM β is at the heart of our approach.
The Journey Continues β Goa Awaits!
We are immensely proud of all five students who represented The STEM Makers at the WSRO Regionals in Bhopal.
Their participation across Robo Sprint, Robo Precision and Young Scientist β All STEM showcased the diverse ways in which young learners can engage with science, technology and engineering.
A special congratulations to:
π Robo Precision Team β First Prize
π Young Scientist β All STEM Team β Judges Choice Award
π Qualified for WSRO Nationals β Goa, 26th & 27th September 2026
The trophies from Bhopal are a wonderful achievement.
But now, a new chapter begins.
From Bhopal to Goa. From Regionals to Nationals. From learning to doing.
The next few weeks will bring new challenges, new iterations and new opportunities to learn.
And we can’t wait to see what our young innovators build next.
Be curious. Build something. Test it. Learn from what doesn’t work. Improve it. And never stop asking, βWhat if?β
At The STEM Makers, we believe that this is how young innovators are built.
The competition may end at the arena, but the learning journey continues.
