In a world driven by innovation and technology, learning shouldn’t be limited to textbooks. One of the most exciting ways to introduce students to real-world science and engineering is through hands-on workshops like aeromodelling workshops, where imagination takes flight.
What is Aeromodelling?
Aeromodelling is the art and science of designing, building, and flying scaled-down aircraft models. These models range from simple paper planes to radio-controlled aircraft. It is an engaging way to understand how aircraft fly while applying concepts from physics and engineering. Students learn the science of flight while also developing engineering skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Aeromodelling Workshop @ The STEM Makers
In April 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting an Aeromodelling Workshop @ The STEM Makers, a first of its kind in Vijayawada, by Dr. Anil Kumar Pasam, Ph.D. Aerospace Engg, Monash University, Australia, B.Tech & M.Tech, Aerospace Engg, IIT Madras. 8 students from class 10 – class 12 participated in the workshop.
In this workshop, students experimented with designs, materials, adhesives and tools fostering innovation. Instead of being handed over a set design, they learnt to tinker and troubleshoot thus developing critical thinking and problem solving. While building these core skills, they also study the principles of flight and electronics. In summary, this workshop:
- Builds STEM foundations
- Encourages creativity & innovation.
- Develops problem-solving skills, patience and attention to detail.
- Inculcates teamwork and collaborative learning
- Prepares for future careers in engineering and aviation.
Most importantly, students experience the joy of seeing something they built take flight, a moment that often ignites passion towards engineering.
Beyond the Classroom
At The STEM Makers, learning goes beyond theory. Aeromodelling bridges the gap between learning and real-world application. It transforms abstract scientific concepts into tangible observations through experiential learning.
Many engineers and aviation professionals began their journey by building simple model aircraft. With the rise of drones, UAVs, and Aerospace technology, Aeromodelling is more relevant today than ever before.

Why Choose The STEM Makers?
At The STEM Makers, we believe learning should be experiential, engaging, and inspiring. Our workshops are designed by educators and engineers to ensure every student not only understands concepts but enjoys the process of learning.
We don’t just teach science, we make it come alive.
Who Can Join?
This workshop is ideal for:
- Students (Grades 9+)
- Curious learners interested in aviation and STEM
- Beginners who love hands-on activities
Final Thoughts
Every great innovation begins with curiosity.
An aeromodelling workshop is not just about building planes, it’s about building thinkers, tinkerers, innovators, and problem-solvers i.e., true engineers! It inspires students to ask questions, explore possibilities, and push boundaries.
When a child sees their creation soar into the sky, they don’t just learn science, they learn to dream bigger. They don’t just learn how planes fly, they discover that their ideas can too.
